As long as your display supports the video mode you're switching to, it should be safe. The video mode can be switched independent of the other settings. The only two settings that really NEED to be congruent are AREA and System Menu Region.by tona - Homebrew General
This topic is getting off topic, so I'm moving it to off topic. It doesn't fit under the Coding forum rules, anyhow.by tona - Offtopic
In order to make this forum a useful resource for developers, some special rules will apply to topics and posts made in this forum. In short: This forum is for CODERS ONLY! To clarify: This forum is for people who have the ability to: A) Write code (in general) B) Compile and run code on the Wii. If you do not know how to write code, this forum is not for you. That's it. Tby tona - Coding

Actually, Dolphin does support Wii games, and is fairly good at it so far. You need to check out source from SVN and build it. I haven't tested it myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was useful for testing homebrew.by tona - Testing Corner
No, it doesn't risk it. That application will copy your setting.txt to the SD card. If you run it again, it gives you the option of restoring it from the SD card, which is slightly risky I guess, but it's not a big deal. You're not doing that, though :Pby tona - Homebrew Applications
Can I perhaps get you to run the Setting_replace tool and send me the setting.txt it produces on your SD card? A few people have been reporting this issue, and it's looking like they all have a funky setting.txt. You can email it directly to me at tona hush com or by putting it on drop.io or something.by tona - Homebrew Applications

I'd like to use your tool (souends nasty, I know lol) to downgrade to version 3.2E as I'm having problems with my backups 'cos of effing 3.3 firmware The thing is that I must be dumb or somehting 'cos I havent managed to start the app yet. so any help would be appreciated :) I got the content of the zip file, put the folder on my SD card, renamed theby tona - Homebrew Applications

Nothing! It just lets you install Waninkoko's cIOS without needing an IOS37 WAD.by tona - Homebrew Applications
Bricking only happens if you change something a bootloader or the System Menu needs to boot. For 99% of homebrew, this can never happen. Only homebrew that deliberately messes with such things has a chance to do this, and those homebrew usually have warnings on them. A semi-brick is when your System Menu's region does not match your console's pre-defined region. This is fairly simby tona - Homebrew General
Hey guys. I didn't like Waninkoko's two-application partial region change, so I went out and wrote my own region changer. Basically, Waninkoko's Downgrader would let you install a System Menu from another region, and leave you with a semi-brick. His Region Changer would change one or two of the pieces of region data, and still leave you with a half-assed region swap. I dareby tona - Homebrew Applications
A mobile device OS has essentially nothing to do with the Wii. It wouldn't help anything to be "ported," and that in itself would be a waste of effort. *lock*by tona - Homebrew General

As interesting as all this "old forum" talk is, it certainly doesn't fit this topic. LowLines has stated his not going to continue his icon set, so I'm going to lock this topic pending any developments with that issue.by tona - Offtopic

Right now libogc limits IOS_ReloadIOS() to values above 4 and less than 255. Is this an arbitrary limit or does IOS not accept values > 255 for system titles for some reason? TMDs store a full title ID for the IOS version they request--it seems like we should be able to load IOS from just about any Title ID we want. Looking at ios.c, it looks like __IOS_LaunchNewIOS() (which does the verby tona - Software
IOS currently only talks to the USB ports in USB 1.1 mode. USB2.0 is possible, but it would take an update from Nintendo or a rewritten IOS module from us. Neither is all that likely soon.by tona - Coding

There is an IRC channel dedicated to Wii Homebrew support. You can find #wiihelp on EFNet (irc.efnet.net). You'll probably be able to find help whenever you join. The rules of the channel are pretty simple, and can be found here: Click here to join #wiihelp via a web-based IRC clientby tona - Homebrew General
For extracting "ARC" files (which are usually U8 Archives), you can use a variety of tools. On the Wiibrew wiki, you can find code for Parsing U8 archives and decompressing LZ77'd content. Since most of you use IDA Pro on Windows, crediar's WiiRawExt will probably be useful. It unpacks U8 archives and automatically decompresses any LZ77 content.by tona - Software
That menu is actually included in the distribution of every program that uses it. Unfortunately, it is not just a system function we can call. It may be possible to use, but it's not exactly a good idea to include/require Nintendo code for our homebrew programs. Perhaps we should make a homebrew version or something, though :)by tona - Coding

Crashes like that are caused by a bug in the software. You're best off reporting it to the author. As for it actually breaking anything, it's not really a possibility on most homebrew. That sort of a crash itself will not break anything. If the program was doing something important while it crashed, it could be dangerous. However, most games and homebrew applications don't touchby tona - Homebrew General
Alex pretty much has it there. Deleting posts causes confusion, and is generally frowned upon. Even in moderation, you generally do not want to delete messages. It's much better to just edit your post to something like "EDIT: Sorry, turned out to be completely irrelevant!" As for the software, yeah, we wanted less bloat. The forum just needs to give us a place to exchange information.by tona - Feedback & Support
You mean it doesn't show up in the Wii Data Mangement Menu? Saves you extract with the save extractor won't do that, unfortunately. You could build the data.bin yourself with some tools available... But other than that, there's not a way to make the Wii Menu recognize saves extracted that way.by tona - Homebrew General

Have you looked at the devkitpro Wii Examples? The "template" example contains a good amount of code to get you going on the basics (Console + WPAD), and there's also some "Lessons" for using GX. But as a whole, documentation for libogc is lacking in most respects. Luckily, most of the new Wii libs are fairly self explanatory.
