Before buying a new drive I suggest that your try adjusting the three screws that keep the spindle motor in place. I did that to my Wii when it started having problems reading discs and once I adjusted the screws it worked perfectly, the only negative aspect of this is that it takes a while before you find the correct adjustment. Hope it helpsby headfirst4halos - Hardware
1) Yes, a system menu update may be required to play the game 2) Yes, make sure that you update HBC first so it won't be deleted by the system menu update. And if you have bootmii it may be deleted so you'll most likely have to reinstall it. 3) you can use either internet or SD card to update HBC 4) As far as I know, there is no downside to updating. The icon is not being displayed because you are on system menu 3.3, in order for it to display you should have system menu 4.0 or newer. But just to make sure it is not an issue with the SD card, try to copy a channel or save using the data management on the wii. I think your problem is that you don't have the .GCT file needed by gecko in order to apply hacks to a game, don't worry though, follow these simple steps and you will be hacking brawl in no time (just don't use cheats when playing online, doing so will get you banned from nintendo's wi-fi connection) + First look up some codes for the game and make sure they are from yourby headfirst4halos - Getting Started

You can delete the homebrew channel like any other channel, via the wii data management, or you can run the hackmii installer and select the uninstall option. If you choose to use the hackmii installer all you have to do is put the boot.elf in a folder inside the apps folder and run it through the homebrew channel Hope it helps :)by headfirst4halos - Homebrew General

The wiki suggests that you rename the private folder if you don't want to lose the data the wii stores in that folder and because it would interfere with smashstack but if you say that the folder doesn't exist then that means you haven't saved anything wii related to your SD card so you should skip that step. smashstack is an exploit meaning that it just allows you to run homebrby headfirst4halos - Getting Started
+ I don't know anything about priiloader, sorry + The hackmii installer can be launched like any other app from the homebrew channel and if you update homebrew before updating the wii it won't be deleted so you will be able to access it and launch the hackmii installer + Bootmii has not been blocked, you can still install it (as boot2) even in system menu 4.3by headfirst4halos - Getting Started
This is the bootmii screen, the SD card must be inserted before powering on the wii and must have the bootmii folder in it so you can access the menu. Now back to the screen, select the fourt option (the one with the mesh), this will take you to a screen with four more options, the one you need to do a backup is the first (the chip with a green arrow pointing to an SD) select it and the backupby headfirst4halos - Getting Started
1) Yes it is very likely but there is another option involving a yu-gi-oh! game, check it out here. 2) Yes again, you may be able to install bootmii as boot2 which is the best brick protection one can have but it only works if you make a backup before the wii bricks so you have a "restore point" to which you can go back. 3) Of course you can use emulators, check this page for a list of theby headfirst4halos - Getting Started
1) Updating is risky for everyone (as something may happen with your internet connection while updating or the power may go off) but the best way to do it is by Nintendo's official update. You don't have to uninstall bootmii or anything in order to have a "safe" update. 2) You have bootmii as boot2, the best brick protection anyone can get. QuoteSpiffy577 If I update to 4.3 1) what can I expect? 2) What will be deleted or changed? 3) Will I have to reinstall everything? 4) If I did update to 4.3, that means I would have to install it a different way then bannerbomb right? 1) Nintendo didn't add any new features so the system menu will work as always except for the shop channel that was updated. 2) If you first updateby headfirst4halos - Getting Started

The "bad reputation" of system menu 4.3 comes from the fact that it was created with the purpose of deleting homebrew and did not add any new features. The last time a feature was added was on system menu 4.0 which incorporated SDHC card compatibility. You can learn more about it here and here Don't worry, as I mentioned before, updating is safe. What you have is a brick caused by an error that ocurred when you were trying to update the system menu and there are two ways to fix this: +If the Wii has not been modded in any way send it to nintendo and they may fix it for a small fee (not really sure about the exact amount) +Try the Savemii method, plug a disassembled gamecube controller in the port number four and press the four direcby headfirst4halos - Getting Started
Ok, first try to access to the maintenance mode (at the health screen press + and - at the same time and then press the A button) if the system menu loads then you have a message board data corruption which can be fixed by a system reformat.
