Without homebrew, you can brick a Wii if you lose/turn off power during the update, or try updating in a different region (bring a US Wii to the UK, or update through an import game) With homebrew, you can brick it by alby Mestizo - Getting Started
On the root of the memory card, you need a separate folder. It should look something like this apps\snes9xgx snes9xgx In the SNES9xgx folder, you should have 3 folders; roms, saves, and cheats. Put the roms in the roms folder, and the games should save SRAM (if applicable)/snapshots (save states) to the saves folder. The snes9xgx folder in the apps folder should hold your emulator boot stuby Mestizo - Getting Started
It is also against the law for Nintendo to "make your Wii dysfunctional" through an update. If they do input a code in their updates to brick systems, then they would HAVE to repair/replace ALL affected Wiis for free, whether or not they did have modifications. Also, they can't force an update on you. They always give you a reminder that there's an update available. If you're afby Mestizo - Getting Started
Ok, I got scared, thinking Nintendo might've added a patch to make HBC record on the play log. Thanks.by Mestizo - Getting Started
I think I figured it out. I re-activated WiiConnect24 last night, so it must've recorded my friend's play time on his Wii. I tested this theory by booting up HBC and playing 5 minutes of a game from my NES emulator, and I saw no record.by Mestizo - Getting Started
I was just browsing through my playtime. So far today, I clocked in about 3 hours of Punch-Out, and an hour on Super Mario 64. On the bottom of the list, I noticed this: "Others 0:36" I know it lists them from the earliest played that day, but I know, an hour ago, I was playing Punchout and turned my Wii off. Where'd that "Others" thing come from? It couldn't have been HBC, sinby Mestizo - Getting Started
Aside from Homebrew Channel, do I need anything else? Will I need to select a certain IOS, or will it select one for me? Can I easily undo any modifications I do with this? Also, is there a way to sort homebrew apps in the channel? I want the first page to be emulators, second page to be Gecko apps, etcby Mestizo - Getting Started
What are the benefits/cons of having standby mode on or off? Like, say I sent a message to a friend. Will I get any messages they sent if I turn my system back on? Will Nintendo access my Wii?by Mestizo - Getting Started
That answer was for if Standby mode was off. I'm asking about if it should be turned on.by Mestizo - Getting Started
Should I have WiiConnect24 on even if I have HBC and, if standby is on, would the system overheat?by Mestizo - Getting Started
What will display to my friends so they know it is me playing?by Mestizo - Getting Started
I wanted to try out the Nintendo Channel. Thing is, I've heard a lot about WiiConnect24. Here's my questions. If I turn off standby mode, will it stop my Wii from overheating if I have WC24 enabled? Will Nintendo patch my console to disable HBC? Do I need it on if I wanna play SSBB or Onslaught online? Also, I wanna play SSBB online with some friends. If I give them my FC/Brawby Mestizo - Getting Started
One more thing. Should there be a new update in the future, should I decline it until HackMii says there's a new method to reinstall HBC? And, when/if there is, should I uninstall HBC and run the update, then reinstall HBC without the risk of Nintendo bricking my Wii?by Mestizo - Getting Started
Yes, it worked. What about the bootmii folder? If I'm not gonna install BootMii, should I still keep that folder? Also, that comment about malicious code causing a brick in modded systems is illegal. Malicious code in anything could easily damage a system, even without modifications. If they did that, they'd have to repair all systems, even ones with mods.by Mestizo - Getting Started
Yes, I have Bannerbomb. The only disks I have for Wii are the Wii Sports and Punchout. Do I still need Bannerbomb in my private directory and boot.elf?by Mestizo - Getting Started
Yes, they are legit. No channels at all other than the apps for HBC in my SD card. Why is the Wii locking up when I go to the SD channels panel? EDIT: NVM, the lock-up was probably from boot.elf. I deleted it, and it no longer locks. Since I don't need BootMii as an IOS or DVDx, do I really even need that file, or the Bannerbomb X:\private directory?by Mestizo - Getting Started
There's nothing on the SD card other than my homebrew and the boot.elf. Do I still need that file in my SD card? And the channels on the Wii system right now is the disk channel, Mii channel, Wii Shop, Photo, Homebrew, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Mega Man 9.by Mestizo - Getting Started
So, don't bother with BootMii and DVDx? I don't plan to use my Wii as a DVD player (seeing as though I have a PS2 and a VCR/DVD player), and I only plan on playing NES, SNES, GBA, and Genesis roms, meaning Wii games will be the actual disks. So, do I run the risk of bricking at all other than a Wii system update? Also, when I try to go to my SD card channels menu, the system locks. Aby Mestizo - Getting Started
Well, I'd have to install it as an IOS. What does it do exactly?by Mestizo - Getting Started
I already do have 4.2U and HBC installed. I'm asking about a possible future update. Do I still need BootMii in the Wii, or, should they release a new update, would it be safe to uninstall HBC and upgrade when they crack it?by Mestizo - Getting Started
I don't see an answer to this anywhere. So, if a new update for the Wii is up, I just refuse it, right? If they find a way to enable homebrew on the new update, would it be safe to uninstall the Homebrew Channel and update the Wii, then reinstall the Homebrew Channel? I just have Homebrew Channel, no BootMii or DVDX.by Mestizo - Getting Started
It's currently at system menu 4.0U. Should I add homebrew or upgrade first? If I add homebrew first, can I upgrade safely and reinstall the homebrew?by Mestizo - Getting Started
