hi guys ^^ I was hoping that some of you could help me confirm some information regarding the infectus...so lets see if i got everything right: 1. if your bricked wii has a vulnerable boot1 (no bootmii installed) and you don't have the encryption keys for it you can use an infectus to get a nand dump which will lead to information about the boot1 and boot2 version of the wii.now you caby Sephiroth - FixMii
yes they will work ^^ actually they work way better than the backups that are made in beta 4 of bootmii...the information of the keys are stored inside the nand backup when made with an older version of bootmii...we didn't have the "dump is for a different wii" problem back then xD hope this will be fixed soon because it's really starting to get annoying xDby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
afaik there would be some legal issues by offering a nand backup online. but everything else is indeed true...theoretically you could create a nand backup for wii A to be compatible with a "fresh" backup from wii B. you just have to be careful with the versions of boot1 and boot2...the version of boot1 and boot2 of wii B have to be equal or greater than the ones installed on wii A (corrby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
@ esspeez: ok so somehow the installer doesn't recognize your sd card correctly...try to format the sd card (FAT or FAT32) and then try again...changing cluster sizes may also contribute to compatibility ^^by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
@ Arikado: he already said that his wii is from 2007, so he should be able to install bootmii, both as IOS and boot2. @ esspeez: what exactly happens if you try to install bootmii? normally it should read out a green message saying "SUCCESS" when installing bootmii...so what message do you get? does it say "SUCCESS" but you're not able to access the bootmii menu or does it somehby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
the simpliest way is to use BootMii-KeyFix...you just have to drop the .exe in the same folder as your key.bin + nand.bin and then start the .exe. it's pretty simple...it patches the invalid key.bin and then it attaches the fixed file to the nand.bin...so you'll get a nand.bin that doesn't require the keys.bin anymore (like in bootmii beta 1 + 2). of course you could hexby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
@ SifJar : nope the dump is from bootmii beta 4...I did a fresh install of bootmii for a friend yesterday and used the newest hackmii installer available (v0.6) and right after the installation I backed up the nand. after some installations I noticed that the system files are corrupt; so of course I tried to restore from the backup I just made a few moments ago... -> "dump is for a dby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
I don't know if it's just me or if this is still a known issue, but even the newest bootmii version available gives the "dump is for a different wii" error when trying to restore the nand. I know this was a common issue in beta 3, but wasn't beta 4 released for just that reason??? and still I'm getting the same error... at least I know how to fix it myself, but itby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
well if he sends the wii back to nintendo i think there is a 99,9% chance that nintendo finds out about homebrew, since the only thing missing is the sysmenus IOS. and we all know how much nintendo charges the customer if softwarehacks are found -.- what exactly did you mean by mentioning a modchip? savemii seems useless so the combination of savemii + modchip to load a homebrew-app dies.by Sephiroth - FixMii
ok it seems that he at least has a bootmii backup (pretty sure he just has bootmii/IOS and NOT bootmii/boot2) + preloader installed. but preloader won't start either even while holding reset at startup...but i guess thats pretty obvious because preloader uses the sysmenus IOS and if thats missing, preloader wont start as well...any way to change the IOS used by preloader even with a wiiby Sephiroth - FixMii
hi guys ^^ i started this topic for someone who bricked his wii by deleting the IOS that was used by the system menu...I know this is really stupid but is there any chance to unbrick this wii (e.g. with savemii + modchip) except for using a nand programmer? i was wondering how exaktly savemii works, for instance does it even use/need the sysmenus IOS? or can it jump to a different saneby Sephiroth - FixMii
@ md990: 1. it's simply a bug that is preventing us to use the power/reset buttons to navigate the bootmii menu, when installed as IOS.hopefully this will be fixed in beta 3. 2. the only way to restore your wii is with bootmii (afaik), but if anything bad happens you can still use the nand.bin with an external nand programmer to restore a bricked wii.by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
the only profit at the moment is that you can backup your nand (+keys!) on 4.0 without having a modified IOS. of course you can't use this image to unbrick your wii via bootmii, but you would at least be able to use an external nand programmer to reprogram your nand if you get bricked. bootmii as IOS will make more sense when the first apps specifically made for bootmii come out, as it wiby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
of course this isn't normal. it should be about 528 mb. are you sure you did everything right?? just retry I guess...by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
QuoteJuxpitosJust a thought but since i have access to HBC is there a way to download and install system updates off of the SD card? or a way to just load Bootmii? *HERE* you have an app, where you can change your settings without using the sysmenu. I just don't know if you can actually change your internet settings with this tool, but you should give it a try!by Sephiroth - FixMii
I think I had 5. a friend of mine had zero...by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
Quotemetroid_maniacactually If you can take my NAND backup, decrypt it, then encrypt it with his keys it would probably un-brick it at the cost of the saves... i think there is a reason why bushing says "it's a difficult and tedious job". if it were that easy and save, there would be no need for him to offer this service in the first place. @ Judas543 : just be patient and wait foby Sephiroth - FixMii
Quotedaniel_c_wQuoteSephiroththat's not true...some time ago I had 2 accounts... "Some time ago" it did not look like Nintendo stores your Wii's region serverside. so you mean this "trick" can't be done nowadays?? and I thought it just depends on your installed firmware...by Sephiroth - Software
Quotedaniel_c_wQuotelotheacI considered changing my shop channel region to USA to see if I could download NTSC titles and tried, but not surprisingly I couldn't access Shop Channel - my console region was still Europe, and I suppose Shop Channel tried to tell Nintendo's European servers it's in the US. Nintendo stores which shop your Wii can access. To change it, you have to delby Sephiroth - Software
THIS is the reason why everybody on earth should have bootmii installed as boot2 xD would be awesome if someone would ever find a new boot1 exploit to use on newer wiis...although it seems impossible. anyway, good luck restoring your wii ^^by Sephiroth - FixMii
every wii has it's own set of keys which are needed to sign vc games for example...the encryption keys are the reason why you just can't use a wiiware or vc titel copied from the wii of a friend to sd and restore it on your wii...the keys don't match. these keys are also neccessary for converting a nand image file (from a friends WORKING wii!) to restore on your bricked wii.by Sephiroth - FixMii
if you knew the ECC keys of your wii you could use bushings nand convertion solution.this will cost you $10 though.by Sephiroth - FixMii
QuoteBoredomThe purpose of the IOS version of Bootmii is to run homebrew via Mini instead of being dependent of an IOS but since barely anyone can run anything via the SD card menu, it's pretty much worthless atm until Twiizers fixes that bug. Also, Yes, you can install both. Someone asked this already... Try looking for your answers before posting a question. which "bug" are you refeby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
i guess you would have tried the nand backup if you had one... it's pretty weird that there is no way to delete a wiiware game...formating the nand would probably solve this problem, but i guess you don't want to lose all your games. but why are so certain that it's this specific game that is causing these problems? to me, it sounds more like an issue with your IOS's;by Sephiroth - FixMii
as far as i remember somebody had a similar problem. and afaik the problem was solved by doing another nand backup. just backup some files on your pc and make some space on the sd card to be able to do a nand backup.by doing so, the "invisible" nand backup will be overwritten by the newer nand backup.by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
QuoteWikiFSXHow would BootMii/IOS users use the Homebrew Channel, then? of course this is nonsense for IOS users of bootmii but it REALLY would be great to use the hbc right from sd. if this were possible, nintendo had no way to stop the hbc unless they stop bootmii entirely.by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
@ anthonyno: it's just a bug that is preventing us from using the power/reset buttons for the IOS installation,so hopefully this will be fixed in beta 3 ^^by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
there is a way to convert a NAND from one wii to another but it's not that easy... check out this thread: only bushing is offering this at the moment and it will cost you $10. you also HAVE to know the encryption keys of the wii which is supposed to get the working converted nand backup. so obviously this only makes sense if you already have a bricked wii and a way to reby Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
@wiiguy: wow thats interesting...maybe somebody of team twiizers could explain this to us. afaik restoremii first checks the difference between your nand and your nand backup on sd before writing anything and after doing so, it restores the blocks that differ from the ones on sd card...but this obviously HAS to mean the tickets get lost if you purchased games after doing a nand backup.by Sephiroth - BootMii Beta
you could use waninkokos 4.0 updater, BUT it isn't recommended because there is definetely a high risk of bricking your wii...if you have bootmii installed as boot2 + did a backup of your nand that shouldn't be a problem though.by Sephiroth - Homebrew General
