Most of the stuff that can access and modify your FS stuff directly (Like writing to the settings file) require fakesigning. I don't think you could get any of that to work if you tried, unfortunately. Edit: Hm. I just managed to do the same thing to my Wii somehow. And I certainly haven't updated. The "WiiHomeMenu" project was based on Grrlib. Notice the owner of that project is bmic. There's a video preview of it, in all its System Menu-imitating glory. Not worth much.by tona - Homebrew General
System Menu 2.x Users: SaveMii acts somewhat differently on System Menu 2.x, but fortunately, it still works. The main difference for 2.x is that updates are only installed from autoboot discs. You can not just insert a normal game disc to install updates with SaveMii on 2.x. A drivechip is essentially required to use SaveMii to fix 2.x bricks. If you have a Wii that is still on System Mby tona - FixMii
It can be installed via homebrew. IIRC, it can even be installed using the same methods as most normal titles-- boot2 has a sort of "alias" as title 1-1.by tona - Software
Quotepinball WizardNot according to wiili but who knows. Wiili is an incredibly bad (read: biased, wrong, worthless) source. Also: yes, someone made something called a backup loader. It's full of fail. Go talk about it somewhere else if you have to. Not here.by tona - Offtopic

QuoteGoldenAlchemistPardon me, but doesn't the region changer brick the Wii? Doesn't seem worth trying. Not the one he's talking about. Unless you're on a Korean Wii. Then, yeah, you could probably brick.by tona - Homebrew Applications
QuotewhodaresI've adjusted mine to use a data structure *snip* It compiles and runs correctly. Am I mixing C and C++? I must admit, neither have really been my strong point. Your code there will work just fine. The '->' operator accesses a member of an object at a pointer. It would be similar to something like (*X).varX, except that's just crazy.by tona - Homebrew General
Holy C failure, Batman! A pointer is a variable that holds a memory address of some other data. You can use various functions to read data from the memory address stored in the pointer. // Functions must be declared before they can be used :P void multi_2v(int x) { x = x * 2; // This statement will have no real effect, except using up some cycles and memory. } void multi_2rby tona - Homebrew General
QuoteDigitalManmore relevant to this topic: are the functions the same? That would be incredibly useful. I've heard that many are similar. Anything that refers to an IOS function (Most of the Wii functions) are going to be mind-numblingly similar, although I'm not sure how many of these are exposed to developers under the official SDK. There had been some accusations of devkitpro takby tona - Homebrew General
@WiiCrazy: It shouldn't be affected by any different types of drivechips/disc drives. However, if your drivechip relies on the first byte of the disc being "R" before it does region patching or some other routines, you could have an issue--like you suggested. Unless something is messed up with 1) Disc loading code or 2) Disc loading settings, you will probably be able to use SaveMii propeby tona - FixMii
Introduction Wiis can become "bricked" for many reasons. Over the past few years, we've discovered the a number of different types of "bricks" and their causes. The practice of fixing bricks is of interest to many groups of people: Those with bricked Wiis, those studying Wii behavior, and those generally interested in helping people out. What's more, most "bricked" Wiis are not normby tona - FixMii

Hello fellow Wiibrewers! We will soon be putting a couple of organizational changes in to place on the forums. Consolidation: There are a huge number of forums, and so we're going to make a first attempt at consolidation. The "Homebrew Ideas & Suggestions" and "Homebrew Help & Questions" forums will be absorbed by the other two Homebrew forums. Initially, we will simply move all exisby tona - Old Announcements
Yes, the only real "failures" as I see them resulted from: 1) Unencrypted memory, which is more of a cost vs. benefit issue (the other big consoles have it) 2) Outsourced Security to Some Guys Who Used To Work For ATI Or Something. Badly managed US companies have a habit of doing things half-assed. Heck, even well managed ones seem to do things half-assed. The security wasn't too bad,by tona - Software
Quotewhodares.... Would that not work? That does work, and people area already doing that in some applications. We can even install fakesigned content if we have homebrew working on 3.3. That's not really an issue.by tona - Homebrew General

This has very little to do with homebrew applications (especially the post content here), so I'm moving it to off topic. Also, let's try to avoid comments about personal attack *coughstrongfancough*. It's more certainly not legal or ethical to launch such an attack on anyone. Let me remind you all that Nintendo has had homebrew-stopping updates in the works before even the VCby tona - Offtopic
