QuoteJjStArOk. If I used a 4gb SD Card for only BootMii and EWL, will there be enough space for a Ubuntu partition on the same card? EDIT: Bump I know this post is pretty old but somehow I missed it, so I figured I'd answer it now. There will most likely be enough space. EWL uses 1GB and Ubuntu Wii uses 2.6GB (but that doesn't leave much space for data or new programs). You wby q885 - Wii Linux
Thanks to Amy of 3dsbuzz for bringing this to my attention. The easiest way to install Ubuntu Wii is now the whiite Linux installer. The downsides are that you need a usb keyboard and that it takes about 2 hours to complete. I've put the new instructions at the beginning of the original "Ubuntu Wii" message.by q885 - Wii Linux

QuotetittybullshittyI downloaded and installed Chromium browser via apt-get, but now where do I go to open it? There is icon and no search to find it. If you want icons and full menus, then you need Ubuntu. If I'm not mistaken, Debian does not add icons automatically. Ubuntu does. Okay, here's a few things you can do to shrink things on the screen so you have a little more space. First, click "Applications"->"Settings"->"Settings Manager". Hold down <ALT> and left-click and drag to see the whole window. Click "User Interface". Click on the button below "Font". It will say "Sans 9" unless you've already changed the font. That makes a lot of sense. When my Wii vga adapter was working, the full 640x480 was very useful. I think I can safely say we all appreciate the work you've been doing. Thanks.by q885 - Wii Linux
Awesome. Thanks for writing back to let me know it worked. As for changing the resolution, there is no way. But what you can do is shrink the size of the text, the size of the icons, and the size of the menu bars (at top and bottom). Then pick the window theme that has the smallest frame (I don't remember what it's called). In Firefox, you can use <CTRL>+"-" to shrink the tby q885 - Wii Linux
So I just installed from scratch (even downloaded the files from the links to make sure they were working) and couldn't reproduce your error. (I did notice some green lines at the top of the screen during boot, but I'm not going to worry about that.) Are you sure you're using the Farter kernel and not the Isobel? If you use the Isobel kernel, the colours will be messed up. Thby q885 - Wii Linux
QuoteDeltaReseroIt took me a bit longer than I originally thought it would as I was quite busy elsewhere and it was a bit harder to forward port than I anticipated. There are no noticable improvements with this newer driver, but at least it will still be an option for a little while yet as it now compiles against the newer 7.6 and 7.7 Xorg versions. As of now, the updated driver (still lacks haby q885 - Wii Linux
I'm currently recommending that you use the "Whiite Linux Installer" to install Ubuntu Wii. I've put the new instructions at the beginning of the original "Ubuntu Wii" message. Try Xubuntu Feisty Wii. In my tests, the problem was completely gone. I can't say why it works, but as far as I can tell, it does. Let me know if it doesn't work for you.by q885 - Wii Linux
Fishears recently uploaded binaries of a kernel with the farter patch. I downloaded it and tried it and found that it solved the overscan problem in Ubuntu. It also fixed a bug in text mode where characters after the cursor would change colours when you typed or hit backspace. I'd very much like to make these binaries available as part of my instructions for running Ubuntu on the Wii. Hoby q885 - Wii Linux
I checked my archives to see if they contained an "/etc/asound.conf". Neither did. Sorry. Let me know if you get "depmod" working. I never did. Operating under the assumption that the Isobel kernel didn't use modules, I just created an empty file called "/lib/modules/2.6.32-isobel-wii/modules.dep". That got rid of the error. You could also look into using a different kernel, which wby q885 - Wii Linux
I don't know whether this will help you at all, but I was having the same problem running Ubuntu. I'm not at all sure what fixed it, but I noticed it was fixed after I had switched from Ubuntu Desktop (Gnome) to Xubuntu (Xfce). Like I said, I don't know if this information will help you, but I figured I mention it. When I get the time, I'll see if there's a /etc/asoundby q885 - Wii Linux
I don't know of any reason why you wouldn't be able to install Ubuntu Wii onto a second memory card (attached through usb, I assume) using EWL. I haven't tried it with EWL, but I have installed Ubuntu Wii from Ubuntu Wii, so I don't expect any problems.by q885 - Wii Linux
@JjStAr: Can you do this with Windows? No. At least I don't know of any programs that would let you do it. As for Mac...maybe? I don't know enough about Macs to tell you. Basically, all you need is a way to format and write to an "ext2" partition. Especially, you have to be able to write special files like devices. @DeltaResero - Was that Ubuntu Wii Dapper that caused the read-only filesystem? I feel like I encountered that error back when I was using whiite/xwhiite, but I don't remember how or if I fixed it.
