Needing help going online in Monster Hunter 3

I need help plz.
After i load my character i select network mode. Then once it has finished loading, a message in japanese saying something about the shop channel pops up ( I can read a small amount of japanese) and bounces me back to the menu where i choose offline mode or network mode.

You probably have an older version of the shop channel and it won't let you play until you update it

...In which case you
a) update through nintendo if you're on 3.4 or above
b) update he Wii Shop Channel and IOS 61 trough WiiSCU
