what is a smb server

sorry for my lack of knowledge twords this subject but i was wondering if some one could tell me what one is and possibly how to set one up

Why would you want to set one up if you don't know what it is? What if its skynet?

In all seriousness, it's a Windows network file sharing system. Google for tuts on how to set it up.

because when i choose load options on snes9xgx (and other emu's) there is an option for smb server
and i sounded easier than using usb drives ( i constently use them for other things)

Not true. Samba is a Linux/Unix application designed to allow those systems to function as a SMB client or server.
