Wii homebrew backups help

Hello all, this is my first post. I am new to the Homebrew community and i recently got a brand new wii, which I already updated to 4.0u. Long story short, I found out about homebrew after I upgraded.

I was able (finally) to get the Homebrew channel installed but my question is, what steps do I need to take to be able to play backups of my wii and gamecube games?

I've tried a few things with the wad installer and have gotten errors every step of the way. If anyone is familiar with this, I would love a little assistance. I've heard that there isn't a way to do it on a non-previously modded wii console if it is already at 4.0u, is this true or is there a work-around?
