Homebrew Disc Loader
August 05, 2009 06:24PM
Hi

I have been trying for months now to create an emulator DVD that can be run using the homebrew disc loader. For these months I have had no such luck. I was wondering whether it would be possible for someone to post a full tutortial or such that can guide me through it.

Thanks

what System Menu are you on?

EDIT: never mind, that shouldn't matter. Have you got DVDx installed?

No. Have you got DVDx installed? What does the root of your disc look like? What did you burn the disc with?

I have got DVDx installed. The root of the disc has a roms folder, a boot.dol and a meta.xml. Im using nero to burn it

Well theres your problem. The boot.dol and meta.xml should be in a folder, named whatever the app (presumably an emulator) is called. And there should be a file called DISCINFO-file on the root, with the Disc's Title on the first line. And also, it must be burnt as ISO9660 DVD. So the root should be like this, if for example the emulator was Visual Boy Advance GX:

/Visual Boy Advance GX
/ROMs
DISCINFO-file

Then burn it. And the boot.dol and meta.xml are in the first folder, ROMs in the second.

no success, i followed your layout of a directory but still havent managed to get anything out of it. I load the homebrew disc loader but i just get a black screen.

I dont understand where i am going wrong. Should i not be using nero to burn the dvd?

Also i had a .elf file spare, should i be doing anything with trhat?

Just out of interest, why are you making the DVD? Couldn't you stick them on your SD card and launch them from HBC?

i like the convenience of simply slipping in a dvd that contains roms and emulator

Well, you'd still need to launch the disc loader from HBC, so really by having the emulator and roms on the SD card, you cut out a step. Just launch the emulator directly from HBC, instead of going HBC>Disc Loader>Emulator.

i have a channel made for the homebrew disc loader
Re: Homebrew Disc Loader

That's illegal and unsupported here due to that fact.

lol did not know that, if its illegal for channels to be made, why is the homebrew channel allowed a channel?
Re: Homebrew Disc Loader

Because it isn't illegal. You see the problem is there is no legal way to make banners without using copyrighted code, except almeda, which is the HBC banner tools. But almeda isn't released, so there is no legal way to make banners. That means HBC's banner is legal, but all others are illegal because they contain copyrighted Nintendo code.
