snes emulator

hello, new guy here, i got my snes emu off the homebrew browser and downloaded roms and put them on my sd card. no probs playing games but cannot save. it says something like error creating file and cannot open snes9xgx/save. so icreated a snes9xgx folder and put a save folder in it and still have the exact same result. ive seen posts about this issue but they downloaded the emu from the net not homebrew, i dont even know if that makes any difference but im obviously doing something wrong and could use help. also other than the hbb and roms that load up from the sd when i go to hbc what do i need to keep on the sd card? i mean like the boot.elf and such that i used to install hbc, do i keep that on there? this is my 1st day of brewing and do not want to screw anything up. thanks
