DVD Movies on Wii!

I don't like the fact that there is no way to navigate DVD menus. If it could, then everything would be awesome.

@strongfan: Use the (libdvdnav) option to do menus and then hold the 1 button down on the wiitmote while using the d-pad to move around the menu screen and hit A while holding 1 to click an option.

Casino Royale doesn't work.

In the install of the DVD patch in the advanced section, you can patch whatever version of IOS you want. What reason would you do that for? Install a fake IOS say IOS 36 as IOS249 to patch an unused IOS to keep away risk of brick perhaps? Just asking.

The Naked Gun 2 and a half, doesn't play.
But then the disk does look quite scratched... I might get it replaced.. (It's a rental)

Juno (PAL) works fine. Some lag occurred when skipping forward/backward a scene, but this seemed to be fixed by jumping back/forward a minute.

Weeds Season 1 (PAL) worked about half the time.

a suggestion:
do not just say ntsc or pal to differ between the versions. for example: the uk dvd of fantastic 4 differs a lot from the german one.

I put up a similar thread on WiiLi yesterday and currently I can't connect there.
I was wondering about those DVD lens cleaner discs that register as "DVD video". ie they won't work on an unmodified Wii.
I had trouble with my 360 reading discs. As the 360 supports DVD video discs I could use one and it fixed my problem.
Has anybody tried one with the Wii DVD player? Any problems?
Like I wrote in the WiiLi thread I know it cost extra to support DVD video out of the box but if Nintendo had done then maybe they wouldn't of had the problem with some Japanese people not being able to play Smash Bros because of dirty lenses.

Why don't you try it yourself? I'm no bushing, but I think that it won't work because the disks in question may be CDs; not DVDs. The Wii's lens can only read DVDs. It doesn't matter if your lens it dirty, you cannot read CDs with the Wii; that would require modding your Wii. But yes, it IS true that if your lens is dirty, you can't read double layer disks.

Like strongfan stated, it largely depends on what disc format it's using. I would HOPE though that they are pressed dvd's since there certainly are some set-top players out there that do not play nice with cd based media without major handholding.

Throw it in your pc and see whether it's a dvd or cd. If the former, you're in luck. Should work in your wii using the dvd edition of mplayer, no problem.
