how to update now from 3.4U to 4.1U?

Please let me know how I can update my 3.4U soft to 4.1U or 4.2U?

Only way right now is to update through Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, which have 4.2. If you want 4.1, you need New Super Mario Bros Wii.

So as I understood, I need to buy from the store "New Super Mario Bros Wii" and together with the game there is an update which I can use to have 4.2 on my wii.

After that I can do the rest.

Is this correct?

Well, if you want to update to 4.2, just get Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. No need to buy them if you don't want them. You can just rent them from a rental outlet or borrow them from a friend.

You may use dop-mii but Mestizo's way is saver easier.

There is no reason to perform the update through a game disc. Use DOP-Mii to install IOS 60 v6174 and then system menu 4.1. If you want to use the shop channel, install it and IOS 61 as well.

Just need to know if after instaling IOS 61 or IOS 60, will I be able to install HBC?

What's are the steps, as I dont want to mess around.

You may as well install the Homebrew Channel before updating. If possible, also install Bootmii/boot2 and make a NAND backup. After installing the HBC, install IOS 60 and then system menu 4.1. Be sure to install IOS 60 v6174 and not the latest version, as it is a stub. Also, be sure to install IOS 60 before installing the system menu, and install system menu 4.1, not 4.2. As long as you do this, there is nothing to worry about.

jbc, why the system menu wad doesn't contain IOS60 v6174 already? I remember asking what was inside a system menu wad, and I was told that an IOS could be inside it too.

The IOS can't be in a System Menu WAD, they are completely separate and independent.
