Upgrade Beta 8 to Current...Help Requested

Background:
I bought a wii from my brother. He hasn't used it for more than a year. It works until I tried running Wii Fit Plus. It wants to do an update. I know he has the Homebrew Beta 8 installed so I didn't accept any updates through wii fit plus. What I want is to bring the wii to the most current version of homebrew. I did try doing the update through homebrew, but didn't work. I do have internet connection because I can surf the web. So now, I guess I have to update via sd card method.

Homebrew Beta 8
Wii 3.1u

Questions:
I am totally new at this. I have been reading for a while to get some information. Do I need to uninstall anything before I perform the update? I downloaded hackmii installer v0.8. I created a directory (HBU) in apps on my sd card. Inside apps\hbu\boot.elf. Now what do I do?

If the latest version of the Hackmii Installer is apps\hbu\boot.elf, simply open the Homebrew Channel and open the app called "\hbu\boot.elf" Install everything you can, and then you can play Wii Fit Plus without worrying about updates.
