Working Wii 9months ago now bricked
March 22, 2012 09:06AM
So I have a wii(Launch day) that was working about 1yr - 9 mths ago. Its was in a box. I have not powered it on till today. Now i'm getting a black screen(really no screen at all) it had HBC installed on it and I would love some help troubleshooting it. When I power it on with a SD the front light blinks and below is a copy of the log from USBGecko with the SD card in. Using a GC Controller in the fourth port does not work.

I have good dumps of the firmware and keys available for it.

all that spew is bootmii running, then loading mini, mini is able to read the ppc app (the "bootmii ui") from your SD card and load it. then the ppc app starts talking to mini, and has it mount the SD card. at that point, i would expect to see something on the TV screen. it doesnt say anything about loading the real boot2 and patching it. IIRC, when it loads the system menu, or HBC, it will say something along those lines.

what does it do if you start the wii with no SD card inserted? and if you plug your GC controller into the first port, starts the wii with the SD card inserted, and press A without having pressed left or right, does it say anything more?

that sounds like a hardware issue to me. neither the system menu or bootmii is showing up on the screen. bootmii should show up even if the bluetooth doomuhickey is broken/shaken loose. i would start by trying a different tv, then get a friend's wii and try their video cable, and work your way along each piece of hardware until you get back to the wii itself.

something else may be up though. when you start your wii with the SD card in and it loads bootmii, by default it should highlite the "start the system menu" or "start hbc" button. and if you press a, you should get some spew from it as it loads either one of those.

booting boot2 with title 00010001-af1bf516

boot2 is at 0x11000010

Shutting down interrupts...

i also notice that when i start my wii up with the SD card in, i get almost identical text as you. i see that i have some stuff at the end of mine that you dont have.
sdmmc: sdhc mode, c_size=30797, card size = 15768576k
sdmmc_select: resp=700
cache init ok
cache init ok
cleared 1 pending power IRQs and 1 pending eject IRQs
Mini version: 1.3

yours stops just before the "cache init ok" part. maybe you have more than 1 issue going on here. verify armboot.bin and ppcboot.elf are not busted. these are the 2 files i have in the bootmii folder. i think they came from the hackmii installer 0.8
$ md5sum ./armboot.bin ./ppcboot.elf
47d5d5150493c9d5d1fc006897348198 ./armboot.bin

So I have tried the original Video cable that came with the wii and it does not work also. I've beeen using the component cable originally. and my md5sum of ppcboot.elf and armboot.bin match yours. I'm going to take apart the Wii and see if anything has come loose on the inside. During the nine months it was down it did send some time in the trunk of my car. Do the Gamecube controller/MC reader share the same cable running to the Wii's motherboard or are they separate cables?

i dont think there are any cables connecting the GC stuff and the SD card slot to the motherboard. pretty much all of the components are soldered directly to the main board.

you can see the sd slot in the front and all the GC hardware connections all stuck right to the board.

Darn it. There goes that Idea. If the BT module has been knocked loose would using a GC controller in the 4th slot work or would I need a actual SaveMII?

If the bt module was bad, savemiifrii would work with a gc controller.

but-
bootmii boot2 would also work
priiloader/preloader would also work
HBC would also work
wiimotes would not work
wii games would not work
etc

So, it is not likely your bt module, but give it a try.

Yeah, even with the DVD Drive and the BT module out there was no change in the output of the boot process. I'm calling it a absolute brick. Thanks for the help.
