complete novice needs help re games not loading

Hi

We were recently given a wii by my parents, a friend of theirs brought it back from abroad (it is a NTSC version changed to play PAL)

They brought a selection of games (Wii Sports, winter sports, Mario Kart and a few others - all PAL games) which all play fine. For my daughter's birthday she got a dance mat+game, cheerleader game and WiiMusic, all original bought from stores in town.

When we tried to play them however they all showed the disc in the disc channel, but when you click on, the screen just goes blank - no error messages, nothing and then we have to power off completely

I know this is probably something very basic, but I currently have a distraught 9 year old and a group of family members who are all chasing me to get it sorted

Can anyone help or at least tell me what I need to find out (spec, firmware versions etc)

Are the games your daughter got for her birthday all NTSC?

No they are all PAL, as is the WiiFit & Board

In fact, just checked and all the games we have are PAL, which is why I thought we'd be safe asking friends/family to buy games from the local stores

What firmware is your Wii on?

Hi - just logged on downstairs so I can look at the settings

It's on Ver 3.4U

In that case, you are running an NTSC firmware and not a PAl one (hence the U). If you were running a PAL firmware, there would be an E there instead of a U.

The simple solution to this problem is to launch the games via an application called Gecko OS.

ah-ha , and there's the problem - I'm sorry but I'm an old school gamer (ZX Spectrum, Amiga, maybe PS2) so not sure what Gecko is - sorry

well, I've tried my best but nada - nothing

I've d/l Gecko onto an SD card but it's not seen on the Wii - is there a step by step guide in really plain english that I can follow ? Feeling rather thick now ;(
