Question about retail discs

Question about retail discs
August 08, 2009 12:03AM
So, I'm preparing to mod my Wii, however I have a small concern.

What happens with retail games? Games I bought? Will they still work in the Disc channel? Additionally, if said game comes with a firmware update, what do I do about it?

Yes, retail games will still work.

You can just update. No current updates hurt homebrew beyond the point of recovery.

Recovery as in reloading Homebrew software? Would firmware remove hbc?

Recovery as in:
Some homebrew may become disabled, but you can easily re-enable it. For the record, The Homebrew Channel, DVDX, BootMii, and bannerbomb are not even touched by any Nintendo updates.

Great sounds good. So, just to reiterate what I'm hearing, I'm free to update my Wii from Nintendo, but I have to watch out for disabled programs, correct?

Sure.

The only "disabled programs" would be anything that lets you illegally play wii games.

Well, a couple of legal apps would be disabled, but nothing very important. In fact, most of it is virtually useless.
