Noob question. How to played burned copies?

Hi everyone,

I just got the Homebrew Channel installed using the bannerbomb method which was fairly straight forward. I got a few things installed with homebrew browser such as emulators and its all very exciting.

I've been reading what I need to do to play burned copies of the games I own. I read somewhere that gecko OS would accomplish this, however I then read that this is only for Wii's modded with a chip and cannot play them if you used a softmod method. I'm running firmware 4.1E.

Can someone clarify if I can use gecko os to run burned games; if not can you provide some details and what I need to do.
