Trouble with emulators on homebrew channel
November 11, 2009 05:50PM
I got this to work before, its probably something really stupid I forgot but everytime I start up an emulator (visualboy and fce ultra in particular) they say they can't find the loading device.

Now I tried 2 different SD cards with both the same stuff on it, and they both got the same problem.
The Emulator itself starts up just fine, so I guess my cards aren't busted, but when I want to search for stuff, they say it can't find the loading device.

Maybe I have to do something different since the newer versions ?
I checked the installation guide, it should work according to that.

Thanks in advance.

You have your stuff in the wrong place on your SD Card. Please review each emulators specific documentation to figure out exactly where to place your files. Note that directory (folder) names are case sensitive.

Thing is, according to the installation, everything seems to be fine.

I made a screenshot for convenience.

Visualboy for example is in apps/vbagx (where it should get the boot.dol to start up the stuff right ?)
and everything its supposed to get is in the root vbagx/roms folder.

I checked for case sensitive things and its probably something minor too but I'm pretty sure it worked before like this.

You have both a saves and roms folder inside vbagx, correct?

yes.

Mind that I'm perfectly capable of starting the emulator, but it just can't find a loading device.

Do you have another folder inside "vbagx" named "roms" with the rom you're using in it? Or did you just put the rom in the VBAGX folder?

[files.myfrogbag.com] this is to show where my roms go

[files.myfrogbag.com] and this is where the boot.dol goes

I don't think my rom folder is the issue though because if it was, I could still browse the contents of my SD cards and get the right folder that way. (at least I could before)

In that case, you could try formatting your SD Card to FAT or FAT 16.

The microSD card I tried this on is brand new btw, anyway I tried formatting it (it was FAT by default, so I chose that, other was FAT32, no 16)

I got the same message.
[files.myfrogbag.com] (this message)

Then I get the option to search another device, and then I choose SD card and get this:
[files.myfrogbag.com]

Maybe somebody knows where I can get an older version of Visualboy GX ? I got it working a few times before.

EDIT:
The scummVM emulator works perfectly fine btw.
Its just the others don't, all the others have this same problem.
