Quick question
November 16, 2009 01:13AM
I'm using wii system menu 4.1 with the homebrew channel installed. Lets say in the the future a game comes out that needs 4.2, how do I play that game without updating? Do I need to install a certain IOS or what?

You could just update and you will be fine. No updates permanently disable Wii homebrew.

But, if you really want to skip the update, just use the application Gecko OS to launch the game without updating.

I thought the latest updated disabled homebrew?

Sorry for the double post, isn't it risky to update my wii to 4.2? Doesn't it have a chance to brick the console?

If you have a region swiched korean wii, then don't update. If you don't have a korean wii, then you are safe tu update. Just make sure you update the homebrew channel first.

The latest update deletes older versions of the HBC (1.0.4 and below) and DVDX (v1). If you do not have boot2v4 and have BootMii installed, BootMii will be uninstalled. After the update, it can again be installed.

4.2 managed to block the HackMii Installer (and thus, most homebrew usage) for about a day.

The brick risk of 4.2 has been LARGELY exaggerated. The risk is actually quite low according to bushing (one of the lead hackers on Wii scene.)

Alright I updated my homebrew channel, I'm about to update my wii, just to be sure, I will still be able to use homebrew right?

The only possible way I can think of to brick you Wii from it is to:

A. Play jumprope with your Wii's power cord
B. Unplug your internet during an update
C. Turn off your Wii while updating

Hey, hunterm, you bumped this topic by about a month. I don't think you should do that.
