Wanting to mod a brand new Wii right out of the box for a Christmas gift

How do I start opening it right out of the box? Have the SD card,reader and blank DVD ready to go. Just don't want anything left on the machine that someone has already entered a screen name for any wifi connections,etc. Plan on putting emulators on it and want it to read DVD's.

However, you will have to perform the initial setup of the console, so cannot leave it in an "out-of-the-box" state afterwards. (I gathered from your post you wanted to do this?)

Yes, aside from it being modified I wanted it to be as if nobody had used it prior. It's for my son and I don't want it looking as if old dad played it before he did.

Couldn't you just install HBC et al later then?

Besides having country setup done, it won't look like it had been played if you use bannerbomb.
