Using Hackmii instaler with homebrew channel?

Is it possible to run the hackmii installer from the homebrew channel instead of using bannerbomb? If so, how?

Yes. Just make a folder in the apps folder called hackmii_installer, and put the boot.dol from the hackmii installer inside that folder. It will appear on the HBC.

Also, if the HBC prompts for an update, that will launch the HackMii Installer.

Hmm...why didn't I think about that? Sounds simple. But wouldn't the HBC crash because there is no icon or xml file?

No. The HBC ignores the icon if it can't find one, and just displays the path as the name, "No description available" as the short description, and nothing as the long description if it can't find/properly read meta.xml.

And if it really bothers you it looking a bit ugly you could always make an icon.png and meta.xml ;)
