Wondering about updating

um ok i have the homebrew channel obviously and i was wondering if i update my wii the regular way through nintendo will it get bricked it hasnt een updated in a long while

Don't update. There is no benefit to doing so; however, update will remove the Homebrew Channel. It is not yet possible to reinstall the Homebrew Channel on system menu 4.3.

If you want a newer System Menu for whatever reason, or want to access the Shop Channel without updating, or want updated IOS, I advise using dop-Mii. You can upgrade to 4.1 (last System Menu to actually add features), update all your IOS and install any missing ones and upgrade the Shop Channel, meaning full compatibility with disc games and also Shop Channel access so you can get WiiWare and VC games. This would be my advised course of action.
