new to this

hi, i'm pretty new to this stuff and i got a couple questions
-i have firmware version 4.0u - is it the same as 4.0? (i think i'm pretty stupid for updating but I think it was because of wii shop channel, it wouldn't let me in unless i updated)
-is there a way I can get homebrew on here without any hardware modifications?
if i can't get homebrew on it right now what mods can I put on my wii?

Yes, you can get homebrew on a 4.0 wii!!!(The "U" just stands for your region: North America). Use the new bannerbomb installation method. You can read up on that here. [www.wiibrew.org]

wow thank you for the fast reply.. i see this method only needs a sd card and not a game (twilight is expensive)
so i load from the sd card.. and it takes me to a installer and i can do it from there?
also, is there a chance that my wii will get bricked, if so is there anything i can do before i do this to allow me to recover it if it does or prevent this?
oh and will any sd card work?

No, your wii won't brick, and yes, there is a way to recover if it does brick by using some other homebrew app. Its bundled with the hackmii installer, and its called bootmii. Just load the hackmii installer, and from there, you can install the HBC, DVDx (so you can play dvds) and bootmii. I'm pretty sure there's a list of working SD cards, but you should just try the one you have first.
