Need some stuff explained

I read that BootMii can be used to fix a bricked Wii, but that it only works on Wiis made before 2008 because of a flaw in boot1. Is there a way to find out if BootMii will work on my Wii? If it doesn't work, are there other ways to fix my Wii if it gets bricked? I want to install the Homebrew Channel, but I'm kind of nervous about it, and having a way to fix my Wii would make me less nervous. I know that just installing the Homebrew Channel shouldn't cause problems, I'm just afraid of making some kind of mistake afterwards.

You can tell if your wii has the boot1 vulnerability by trying to install bootmii to boot1. If the hackmii installer lets you, then you can. If it doesn't, you can't.
