A famous hacker (you know who) has already released a safe updater for system menu 4.3. Maybe it can help people who can't wait until more solutions show up.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Not long ago SifJar was telling me Trucha Bug Restorer uses a so simple exploit, that Nintendo could do half-dozen things to prevent it. Too bad they finally realized it. Anyway, Ninty isn't known for the best protection on the block, so it wouldn't be surprising if they slipped somewhere. According to Wiibrew, one of the fixes is "NANDFS privilege escalation fixed ". What does it meby Aobx - Homebrew General
I think Dop-Mii could install Internet Channel with no problems.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Thanks for explaining, SifJar. But since you're not sure, we'd better wait to see if someone knows exactly what a hook is, in both cases.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Sorry for leeching this topic, but since TC solved his questions already, I'd like to know more about "hooks". What is exactly this? I used Ocarina with my No More Heroes 2 game and noticed my game wouldn't boot with the "no hooks" option enabled, it worked using "VBI" hook instead. Is it the same kind of hook you were talking about? What does it do?by Aobx - Homebrew General
Now I understand completely. Thanks again, SifJar.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Don't worry about that. We still have that margin of "some time around 2008" to check if a Wii can have the bugged boot1. It's not perfect, but it helps.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Good to know that. I've read somewhere you can't officially reinstall an already installed title if the revision value is the same, though you can force it through homebrew without any modification. Didn't know you could do the same through Wii Settings.by Aobx - Homebrew General
There's no need to replace a stub if it isn't a system menu IOS or if you aren't into warez. Even though there was no problem in doing this, it is pretty pointless, since stubbed IOSes aren't going to be used, and most apps can do fine with a patched IOS 36 (except HBC that suits itself finer with an unpatched IOS61). If stub is somehow related with your problem, it shouldby Aobx - Homebrew General
If an update is officially available, then it would restore the channels. However, if a person is already on system menu 4.2 (the latest available), you can't officially download the system menu again. You could do it by Dop-Mii, but since you're already using it, you could make it easier by downloading the channels instead.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Never happened to me that information. I think that should settle when a person's Wii was made. Thanks for answering and showing me that article, there's more information there.by Aobx - Homebrew General
But I've never seen the serial number on the mobo. I don't know how to exactly express myself, I'd just want to know if there is a reliable way to check the real serial number your Wii has, in a case the mobo has been changed but the carcass hasn't.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Seems you didn't specified any directory in the options menu. Before you load an game, check the options and set the path for states and sram in an already existing directory, since Snes9xGx doesn't create any new folder for you.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Someone was telling me that his LU40 Wii isn't capable of installing Bootmii/boot2. Pretty strange, since mine has an higher serial number and Bootmii/boot2 installation went fine. I thought about his Wii being refurbished, something gone wrong with its previous mobo and then it was changed. In that case, since you can't entirely trust what the console's carcass tells you, is thereby Aobx - Homebrew General
If the game originally has the option to save, then Snes9xGx can save the game like it would be saved if played in a Super NES. It doesn't seem to work for you though. Check in the emulator menu about the directory of SRAM. After you normally save (without save state), check in the emulator save/load menu to see if there's a SRAM related file.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Pretty dumb of me. That never came to my attention. But thanks for telling me that.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Dop-Mii can easily take care of what you ask. If you don't have an internet connection in your Wii, get the channel wads from NUS Downloader and put in your sd card.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Just bumping for another question. I've been reading and after talking with someone, came up the question: "How exactly the Wii detects a backup disk being not an original disk?" I thought about the encryption with the private key, to sign it as an original one. Is this right? When is the disk encrypted? During manufacturing? While being wrote with the game? There's something that doesby Aobx - Homebrew General
Thanks for explaining, yellowstar. So the crash is in the Broadway, not in the IOS.by Aobx - Homebrew General
Shouldn't ATD's IOS gain higher privilegies with the first ES_DiVerify calling? Why would it call the function a second time?by Aobx - Homebrew General
Don't worry, I get it now. Just be sure in which case the error didn't appear and if it really meant something important. I see it doesn't. Thanks.by Aobx - Homebrew General
SifJar, mine gives this error, too. When loading and when deleting, but everything always goes just fine. Do you know why that error occurs and what does it mean?by Aobx - Homebrew General
It's not a technical term. By "called off" I meant just "shut down".by Aobx - Homebrew General
Almost as I thought, good to see that no one other than Nintendo can brick your Wii if you think before doing certain things. I was messing around with my Wii, and I tested something that I knew it would give me a code dump. I noticed that after a code dump (or even a plain black screen) your wiimote stops responding. Why does that happen? As for I know (learned from Wiibrew Wiki), apps, channby Aobx - Homebrew General
I learned from Bootmii.org that even Bootmii/boot2 isn't invincible, if a victim of "targeted attack". For all we discussed here, I can only imagine this attack overwriting boot2. Isn't this the only way? Supposing the attack doesn't target Bootmii, but the system itself, it could delete the system IOS, for example. But how would someone be a victim of "targeted attack"? I canby Aobx - Homebrew General
Thanks for answering that much, jbc. In fact, I've read about three modchips that work on D3-2, but none of them work using dvds. I thought D3-2 itself already refused to read any dvd, isn't it that way? Wouldn't that mean no modchip could ever work using dvds again? Anyway, having the trucha signed system IOS plus an autoboot disk, which kind of recovery disk would you recommenby Aobx - Homebrew General
Asking something related, I tried to check booting homebrew from mini, as SifJar told. As I suspected, Bootmii doesn't boot any application from mini even with a fully working system menu. Are there mini versions for apps like Dop-Mii or AnyTitle Deleter?by Aobx - Homebrew General
Thanks for confirming, jbc. So, it doesn't seem the solution for "most of the full brick Wii console(s)", after all.by Aobx - FixMii
I'm not sure, and I even think it isn't reliable. I just found it very suspicious, so I posted here to see if anyone had tested one of those. Seems pretty unknown though. Probably, it doesn't work as advertised.by Aobx - FixMii
In other words, missing/corrupted system IOS can only be recovered with Bootmii/boot2, right? A semi-brick wouldn't be much of a problem with a functional homebrew channel. If you are on a lower version of a system menu, you can even upgrade through disk channel, rendering SaveMii(Frii) useless. Otherwise, it would be a good idea. Interesting knowing about that use for a modchip, but with thby Aobx - Homebrew General
