Thank you SifJar for that last reply, that explains it better for me to understand. Since HW_AHBPROT is a part of the Homebrew Channel, maybe something could be added to the WiiBrew glossary about HW_AHBPROT.by sickpuppy - Getting Started
I think I get the basics of it now. The latest version of homebrew channel has the HW_AHBPROT support, this enables use of the IOS(s) and running homebrew without the need to patch an IOS, or even install a cIOS. I'm guessing that the IOS is loaded into some kind of temporary memory and then patched to be used with homebrew. Is HW_AHBPROT something Nintendo can patch with an update, or was iby sickpuppy - Getting Started
Thanks for the reply metroid_maniac I was hoping for more than "complete hardware access". I'm thinking this does not fill my quest for knowledge, maybe I should just accept it as you have explained it.by sickpuppy - Getting Started
I've been seeing the term AHBPROT a lot. I kind of get the meaning of it but don't know exactly what it means and everything it accomplishes. I know in the past that DVDx and IOS202 got things done, but now lets say somebody softmods an older Wii, just having IOS58 and homebrew channel 1.0.7+ installed will get the usb 2.0 speed and dvd support. I was looking at the WiiBrew bootmii page and saw this QuoteConsoles made after some point in 2008 (no concrete date is known) have a new version of boot1 that patches the vulnerability which allows the console to boot a modified boot2. The Hackmii Installer will detect this situation and refuse to modify boot2(see more at Hackmii). Since boot1 cannot be updated, all consoles already manufacby sickpuppy - Getting Started
First I would like to say that this is my second Wii, my first Wii was able to have bootmii as boot2 installed. The problem I'm having is with a Wii I just bought from my neighbor. It has 4.2 firmware and has a serial number that starts with LU37. I used the hackmii installer 1.0.8 to install the homebrew channel but will only install bootmii as ios. I bought this Wii thinking that the seriaby sickpuppy - Getting Started
Not all SDHC cards are compatible with the Wii. I was having problems with a 2GB sandisc card being compatible with BootMii. Just something to consider when making your purchase. Here is a link to the BootMii compatibility list at WiiBrew. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/BootMii/SD_Card_Compatibility_Listby sickpuppy - Getting Started
OK, I went and bought the official Wii white 2GB sandisc SD card, what a difference the color makes. I am glad to say that the white card worked and restored my Wii back to a previous state.I should have fully researched everything before attempting the recovery, I'm just glad my Wii wasn't bricked when I tried this. The blue 2 GB sandisc SD card I was trying to use was labeled as workiby sickpuppy - Getting Started
Last night I ran the BootMii recovery and it does not finish the recovery process. The simulation went fine, I was then prompted to press the start button to continue. The recovery is stuck on RecoverMii......DO NOT POWER OFF, it's been like this for about 20 hours now. My Wii was not bricked when I used the recovery function. I had moved from my computer to my SD card 1)the bootmii foldby sickpuppy - Getting Started
