Alien Puzzle Wii

Created By: GEMISIS

I'm currently working on a port of my game Alien Puzzle (originally for the Nintendo DS) to the Nintendo Wii. It's nearly complete, with graphics being one of the last parts for the first release (I am trying to make it look a bit neater). Since everything else for the first version is pretty much done, I thought I would go ahead and start gathering beta testers for it.

The game concept is simple: You play as an alien, and you have to go through different mazes and collect as many gems as possible, then make it to the end of the level. The only problem: you can't stop moving once you've started. If you hit a wall, you will bounce off of it. If you hit a bomb, you lose a life. Lose all three lives and it's game over. If you beat the level, you can take your score on with you to the next level.

Features of this game include the following:

-A built in, behind the scenes, mp3 player (either from a sd card or flash drive with the music in a folder called mp3 or mp3s)
-The ability to create your own levels (level creator will be released with the first official release of the game)
-The ability to add custom backgrounds to your levels
-High Score table (with saving)
-Optional Motion Controls (can be enabled/disabled by pressing A at the main menu)
-Simple beeping sounds from the wii remote for certain things (can be enabled/disabled by pressing B at the main menu)
-A Dlc Shop with free download-able levels (can be accessed by pressing 1 at the main menu). Currently there are only two levels for download, with plans to add tons more

Known Glitches:

-Can only display up to 13 levels at once (from level browser and from the dlc list). This is currently being fixed, and is not considered a huge problem to me as it's not going to effect the gameplay. This was fixed in the second testing release

If you are interested in testing, please email me and I will give you the demo to test. I have a short post about the game here which talks a little bit about the level creation process, and includes a picture from one of the in game levels. My email is GEMISIS@live.com.

To make things easier, here is the demo, please post all bugs in comments below: download

The controls for the game (if you have the demo) are as follows:

*Please note that the Wii remote is held on it's side EXCEPT for when inputting text

At the menu:

-Left to go to the next selection
-Right to go to the previous selection
-2 to select a level
-1 to go to the Dlc Store (Requires a connection to the internet)
-A to enable/Disable Motion Controls (disabled by default)
-B to enable/Disable the Wii Remote speaker (enabled by default)

In a level:

-Left to move Down
-Right to move Up
-Up to move Left
-Down to move Right
-Plus to pause
-B to quit (when paused)
-If motion controls are enabled, simply tilt the controller in the direction you wish to move (while still holding it sideways)

When at an input screen:

-Point at the letter you want and press A to select it
-Minus to erase the last letter
-Plus to continue

When viewing the highscore table:

-2 To continue

When at the Dlc Shop:

-Left to go to the next selection
-Right to go to the previous selection
-2 to select a dlc to download
-1 to return to the main menu screen

3/17/10:
The demo was updated to include a few new features:

-Dlc shop shows if you download a new one, update a previous one, or there is no newer version of the level
-Fixed some video glitches
-14 Level display limit was taken off for both the Dlc Shop and the level browser

also, a new level was uploaded today, and the levels that were included were also put onto the dlc shop. The new level is in the shape of an awfully put together penguin.

3/20/10
The demo was updated to include a few new features and bug fixes:

-Dlc shop now shows a message while loading the dlc list
-Fixed a bug in which a downloaded level would not load
-Dlc shop bug fixes with downloading

Also, 2 more levels were uploaded to the dlc shop. The first one is a remake of one of the original levels from the Nintendo DS version of the game, and the other is a giant laser. Remember, to access the dlc shop, you must connect your wii to the internet, then press 1 at the main menu. :)

3/24/10
The newest version contains major updates and bug fixes. Update wise, there has been enormous progress:

-The level creation tools were released as well! (see below)

Also, a multiplayer map was added, along with 4 other new single player levels: a car shaped level, a world shaped level, a bus shaped level, and a level where you have to make lots of choices. As usual, these are available via the dlc shop.

The documentation and level creation tools can be accessed here

The freezing when you press one is due to it loading the mini DLC shop on wifi. I fixed it to display a message while it's loading. I'll be releasing a new version of it soon. Thanks for testing :)

-GEMISIS

Edit 3/20/10:
I've uploaded the new version. The message is now displayed and the DLC shop should work better now.
