a bit of a conunDRUM!

So i purchashed the rock band 2 wireless drums not too long ago and they wouldn't work on my backup version of the game. I sent them back in for warranty and they still wouldnt work on my wii (v3.1). However, with the legit version, on a 3.4 wii, the drums work just fine. so heres the thing, i want the drums to work for my wii so i have two options, perhaps more:

1. install iso37: can anyone confirm if this would help in any manner? and if so, how do i go about doing so?

2. updating ot 3.4 and doing the twilight hack all over, which leaves me with the following question, how do i prevent nintendo from updating my firmware without having to turn off the interwebs? and would homebrew work, regardless of of the wii version?
