Game needs upgrade but have homebrew channel

Hi.
I recently installed the homebrew channel on my wii, in which i had to downgrade my wii to 4.0 and use bannerbomb. Everything works fine, however, I tried to play a game the other (Transformers: Revenge of the fallen) and where the game usually pops up in the 'block' view it popped up with "system upgrade" needed to play. I've read at numerous sites that if i upgrade my wii with the homebrew channel on it, it can brick my wii. Is this true? is there another way to get the game to play?

Another problem I have with some 'wad' file games is that once they're installed, and i try to play them, a message like 'you are unable to use this channel' pops up and the only way to get back to the wii menu is to restart the wii. is this just a corupt wad file?
