How to safely get to 4.2u

I'm a wii virgin, I got into it a little when I first got it but my knowledge and time goes mainly toward the xbox 360. I need to know how to safely update my wii to 4.2u, I assume, so my daughter can play the game Dance Dance Revolution 3 Hottest Party that she got for christmas. Her wii is currently at 3.1u and the game wants to do an update but I need your help. The reason I ask how to safely update is that I had an argon 13 wire chip (I think it's an infectous chip) installed a couple years ago, I've done the twilight hack (hbc is no longer on the channel screen though) and there is a wad installer channel on the wii also. I want to be able to install cios's in the future that support newer games as the installed argon chip firmware doesn't support newer games and I don't know of any newer firmware that will load newer games.

Please don't talk about WADs or modchips or cIOSs here, as the rules clearly state you're not allowed to talk about them.
