Do backed up Wii and Gamecube games play less well off a USB Flash drive?

As compared to an external hard drive? It's just I already have this lying around: [www.amazon.co.uk]

...and would prefer to not have to buy the surplus hard drive unless there is significant issues with compatability and run time, etcetera.
