GeexBox & UPnP problem
October 18, 2010 03:05AM
Hi everyone! I have the current version of GeexBox running on the latest version of Homebrew. GeexBox seems to be working fine for playing mp3s or pictures from the SD card. However the front SD card is my ONLY option even though I have a D-Link DNS-321 NAS which has a UPnP server. I know it is working because I can use XBMC on Windows and Linux on my laptop to access the UPnP share on the NAS. I did not have to do anything on the NAS to give access to the XBMC clients.

I've looked through the documentation for GeexBox. It mentioned editing a text file to add paths to Windows (SMB) shares, but it seemed to indicate that UPnP shares should be auto-detected.

Is there a way I can tell GeexBox to look for UPnP shares? Is there something I need to do in order to activate UPnP? Is there a text file I need to edit?

I appreciate any suggestions!

Hello everyone!

OK, I found the text file /GEEXBOX/etc/network and found the following section of code:

# Use UPnP MediaServer devices auto-discovery

UPNP="no"

# Network Stream

ICECAST="no"
SHOUTCAST="no"
# WARNING: SHOUTcast TV may contain streams with adult content!
SHOUTCASTTV="no"
WHITELIST=""
BLACKLIST="adult porn xxx ESS SWCTV SWPTV Subscription"
TIMEOUT=10
TRIES=10

I've tried changing UPNP="yes" and UPNP="" and either way, in GeexBox, I don't see any of my UPnP shares on my network. When I select "open" my only choice is "open file ..." and "load subtitle ..." When I select "open file ..." my only option is "frontsd/" which works great for media on my SD card.

How do I enable UPnP? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
