Updating hacked wii 3.4

Hey guys,
I'm following the wiibrew scene since I hacked my wii for homebrew channel. Now I see a lot of people have hacked there system menu 4.0. And just seen the beta 2 of hackmii. But the thing I couldn't find anywhere is:

Can I update mij 3.4 menu, without losing any functionality of my homebrew channel. I like to play with different features of the homebrew channel so I hope I can keep using the same stuff as before. And what is the easiest way for updating my already hacked wii? And should I do it or just wait?

You can update via Nintendo - HBC won't get deleted (nor DVDx). Alternatively, you can update certain aspects using WIISCU.

Thats true, too. Except when i was on 3.4, when i used the unnoffical gecko os #002 fix, the rebooter started working. Strange.....

So what was that wiibrew suggest not updating your wii true nintendo warning that was on this site for a while about?

They just mean it's always a good idea to avoid updating through Nintendo as soon as they release a new update. It's best to wait until the implications of each update are known, and often to then use certain apps, like WiiSCU, to update. For example, WiiSCU allows one to download new things like the shop channel update and any new game IOSes without breaking <4.0 homebrew compatibility. One can also reintroduce the trucha bug into your IOSes using WiiSCU.
