DVDX (mplayer ce 0.75) cannot play dvd on 4.1u
September 16, 2009 09:47PM
Dear all,

I Installed HBC using this tutorial : [wiibrew.org] and installed Homebrew Browser and mplayer ce 0.75 from there. Every step was successful. However I cannot play DVDs in mplayer ce. Any idea how can I fix it / make it working? Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks.

Just to make sure... did you install DVDx with the hackmii installer?

Yes, I almost tried my entire collection, varying from original to home-made DVDs, DVD-R, DVD+R, etc. I also tried to open files from DVDs/CDs but unsuccessful.

I bought it in November 2008, it had System menu 3.4 on it. In case that you are looking for IOSs on it, I paste the installer.log by hackmii here:

You have Bootmii IOS, I see. I was just seeing if you had a newer drive that doesn't like DVDx

I'd say almost definetly no, i think that drive only came into existence in the last few months.

Could it be an incompatibility issue?

In addition, I am not sure if this is important or not: just to test, I uninstalled DVDX from the Hackmii and then tried to install it using the DVDX installer from the HBC. I tried it in Advanced mode to install DVDX on IOS36 (as stated in the log file) but I got these errors:
Error -2011 installing DVD Stub ticket
Error -2011 installing stub
anyway, I re-installed DVDX from the Hackmii menu and it completed with "succeed" message. Isn't it odd?

Is there any way to confirm that DVDX is installed properly ?

Do you recommend cIOS instead ?

cIOS? How would that help?

Are you sure you're navigating to the correct section to launch your DVD? I know, its a dumb question, but I thought I may as well ask. :P

I read somewhere that DVDX could be replaced by cIOS. This page has some clues : [www.wiibrew.org]

I navigate like this to open DVD : from mplayer ce home screen : open > dvd-video > play dvd
[btw, there are no dumb questions ;-) ]

try pressing play libDVD (or something along those lines)
Re: mplayer ce 0.75 cannot play dvd on 4.1u

tried all of them: no success..

I also tried mplayer dvdlib edition, it crashes, when I press the home button, I can see the debug screen for 2 seconds saying :
using libdvdcss version 1.2.9
...
Couldn't open DVD device: /dev/di (no such file or directory)

is there any way to see mplayer ce debug messages?

It might appear on the root of your SD card.

I guess that's true...

for the time being I suspect that DVDX has not been installed properly by Hackmii.. is there any way I can make sure that it has been installed properly?
