Is a Homebrew Begginer safe from bricks and loses?

Is a Homebrew Begginer safe from bricks and loses?

I'm looking for an user-friendly explanation on this.

Here's what I've understood so far:

The 4.2 Update will:

Download and Install updates in this order:

-boot2* (to boot2v4)
-IOS of the new system menu*
-A new system menu.*
-Everything else

*: If the update fails on any of these three parts, say bye-bye to your Wii, if the update fails on anything else, expect strange behaviours.
(f.e. Games not launching) or it may also brick your Wii if it damages the filesystem.

In respect to boot2:

There's a 1-in-100,000 chance this update does fail. Good ol' lazy Nintendo developed a safety mechanism for this, which is as good as taking a second boot2 stored in flash if the first one failed and using it. Funny thing is, that's literally what the mechanism does. In the same lazy way the update has not been tested on Wiis for sale. This means that this update is equally, or even more risky than using a 3rd-party updater.

Correct me if I'm wrong with these facts.

My Wii Specifics:

.Version 3.4U
-Homebrew v.1.0.6
-Only app: Gecko OS 1.7
[i.e. What would be called a Homebrew Begginer]

I'm going to get NSMBWii, and from what I've heard it carries a 4.11/2 update (4.1 update with 4.2's boot2 update and a few needed IOS)

So, based around this information, I want solid answers:

Will updating my Wii delete my Homebrew?

And, If it won't, Which update is better? NSMBWii or Wiiconnect24?

~Thanks in advance.

P.S. If anyone has a similar question, you may post it here as well.

It is perfectly safe to update. Since you have HBC 1.0.6, it will not get deleted. Bootmii boot2 however will. It is easy to reinstall though. Either way of updating is safe. The choice is yours.

You are saying safe with or without including the 1-in-1000 chance of bricking, right?

I believe that 1-in-1000 chance is if you plan on playing jump rope with the power cord while updating. :)

but seriously, unless the power goes out, you are fine

You're mixing up your facts horribly.

The 1-1000 chance only applies to the boot2 update. And, note that the number is only theory. There are no facts to back it up. In fact, the facts prove that percentage wrong.

If an IOS installation fails, depending on the IOS, you may not be bricked.

Anything else failing beyond boot2 update will be caused by a loss of power. Not a theoretical percentage.

I guess someone missed the In respect to boot2: part

And I never said that the percentage is the cause. Unless, you say the 1 is power outage, or internet failure, etc.

But thanks anyway.

I'd like to know how it turns out for you, ChReNiC. Please let me know.

If you have an Internet failure, the Wii will cancel the update and it will half-complete. I'm guessing Nintendo does something like not updating the System Menu until its IOS is installed.

Ok, I did the 4.1 1/2 update, and let me tell you,

The fail rate is more like 1 in 1,000,000,000

The update is incredibly fast.

Less than two minutes

I can also confirm the disk update (4.1 1/2) was a success for me, and very fast too, under 10 seconds.
Didn't touch anything but BootMii, but that was expected.
