No internet on my wii

I have recently downloaded Homebrew and I cannot connect to the internet. Is there some action needed to be taken not included in the directions in order to get my internet working so I can, for instance, download from Wii Shop Channel? My OS on my Wii is somewhere between 3.0 and 4.2.

Okay so I reset my connection and now I can connect, but connecting to the Wii Shop Channel is impossible without a system update, or at least seemingly so. How can I connect to Wii Shop Channel without a system update? Or is this impossible?

You may as well just update. There isn't any reason not to, as long as your HBC is up to date.

If you really don't want to update, install IOS 61 and the shop channel with DOP-Mii.
