Update from 3.1 to 3.2?
December 21, 2008 12:04AM
So I recently found out about homebrew on the Wii(don't own one myself) and was going to help my friend get set up and install hbc on his, and read that version 3.2 is ideal for the channel. I'm afraid to just go into the system menu and tell it to update because I don't want it to install 3.4 immediately; while usable I read its not recommended. Are the updates progressive so I can stop when it reaches a 3.2 update or is it an instant jump to 3.4?

I read of a method that you can choose which update to download from Nintendo's servers , but from what I understand you need HBC to do anyway. Looking to not brick my friends wii hehe.

Update to latest version is update to latest version. No kind of progressive update.

You can use a game disc with the 3.2 update. I think Mario Kart and SSBB have this update This is the best, easy and safe way to update without homebrew.

I also want to update from 3.1 to 3.2. I have HBC and Wad Manager, but no custom ios or something similar. My originals had 3.1, and I dont know anyone with wii...

if you are NTSC, use a game to update to 3.2... if not, use anyregion changer to update to 3.2

Is there any benefits from updating 3.1 to 3.2?

I don't get it... But anyways, about 3.2 and Starfall "advantages", you can simply use Gecko OS to bypass updates and run foreign regions updates. I really think, if some day appears a legal method to create and install custom channels, Gecko OS should be a must-have on any Wii.
3.2 and Starfall should only be useful if:
1. You are a paranoid and don't wan't any kind of disc update with original games.
2. You often install bad (and illegal) banners (so the Recovery Mode helps to unbrick)
3. You want to run trucha-signed discs (but you need a modchip to do that anyway, and I think you can do this too with Gecko OS in 3.3 systems and above)

yeah, Gecko will run trucha discs

3.3 is bad. 3.4 is bad. 2.0 is old enough that some stuff won't work (or rather, you won't have later versions of IOS automatically installed.)

Anything in between is all the same, as far as homebrew is concerned.

Question: Why doesn't starfall work on 3.1? Theres not that much of a difference between 3.1 and 3.2 is there?

because Crediar does not have 3.1 and is no longer updating starfall.
