Possible Corrupted NAND? Can't run Discs or homebrew?

Possible Corrupted NAND? Can't run Discs or homebrew?

Hi Everyone. I've been doing some research into my problems but I can't seem to find anyone with similar problems, so here goes.

I'm running System Menu 3.4U and HBC 1.0.3 (no bootmii yet), only really using the HBC to run Gecko codes for Smash Bros, as well as some emulation. It seems that my Wii has slowly become more corrupt over the past few months. Initially the Wii was giving me an error message occasionally telling me that "The Mii Data is Corrupt", and occasionally wouldn't start certain games. I did manage to get my saved games backed up via Savegame Extractor just to be safe (I'm dating myself here, I stopped checking the homebrew scene for a month or two)

However, I went to start it up this evening, and I cannot start any games from discs (I can see the startup sequences of each game, but when I click start, I get nothing but a black Screen). Also, I cannot get into the system settings, the Wii just hangs. In addition, I cannot boot any software out of the Homebrew Channel (although the channel operates with no problem), and I have tried to get the Hackmii installer to run via BannerBomb v1, and it gets as far as the scam warning before it locks up. Basically, I can't run anything at all now except the system menu, and I'm kicking myself for not getting Bootmii on sooner.

Seems to me like this would be caused by something in the NAND, but I'm not sure what, or how to check it without access to homebrew. Can anyone give me any ideas on what I could do to fix it before I take the next step and either get it repaired or purchase a SaveMii?

sounds like you're having hardware issues. Seems like the solution is to get a new Wii, sorry dude.

Wow really?

Yeah, this is the kind of thing bootmii tends to prevent.
Not sure how or why, but it does.
Sorry dude.

Wait a minute, I confess to be no Wii specialist, but I have a reasonable CS expertise. How can bootmii help in case of hardware problems?
If some HW part is failing, I cannot see how backtracking to a previous version of the nand may help.

Cheers

Seems some problem related to nand... but give a try. Are you sure the hackmii installer won't run ?? Is normal that it hangs on scam screen for about 20/30 seconds, just wait if it asks to press 1 to continue...

I can get the Hackmii installer to the scam warning screen, and it just sits... forever. Nothing happens after 20/30 seconds.

Anyone know if Nintendo is charging that absurd repair price for Wiis found to have homebrew on them? If so, I'm waiting for the price drop and just getting a new one, or trying to break into this thing and fix it myself. Does anyone have any ideas on what this "hardware problem" could be specifically? I'm not totally sure where to start looking for problems if I open it up.

He's just saying that Bootmii prevents this sort of thing because usually it's just a vital block of the NAND that gets corrupted, however, with Bootmii you can restore that block. It's just corrupted data, not a bad sector or anything of that sort. Unfortunately, this guy didn't have Bootmii or a NAND Backup, so he couldn't test that theory.
