when i start up the game and go talk to the man everything seems fine until...

the screen locks up and this is what i have...

I have tried this many different ways with no luck,

can anyone help?

What SD card are you using?

i have tried 256mb and 1gig sandisk.

I get the same error and have been since yesterday at this time. I used a Sandisk 1 gb card and now I'm using a Kingston 2 gb card.

I did have the hack previously installed but deleted it because I was not able to read any of the games from dvd's.

Any help would be appreciated as this is driving me nuts.

I can almost 100% guarantee that you both have your files misplaced. Carfully read through this: [www.wiibrew.org] and make sure you have done everything correctly.

so i downloaded the wiibrew channel and thought i unzipped it but all i have is a tar file and cannot find the boot.dol within it. could this be my problem?

You need to unzip the tar file to get to the boot.dol file.
