How do I update my WII?

I have an age old wii (2.1e I believe) and I only recently found out about soft modding, playing backups and all this other homebrew. I have searched all over the internet and the twilight princess hack doesn't seem to work for version so low as mine (Something about it can't determine the system menu or something... Yes I did use the <3.3 'patch'). I need to know how I can update it WITHOUT going to 4.0 (correct me if I'm wrong but I heard that is not hackable/modable ATM)?

Get a game with the right update (for example: SSBBrawl or Mario Kart)

Depends on your point of view.

also, we do not support backups here, nor help those with only backup playing as their main objective.
