Homebrew Install Problems

Here is the description I can find on using the exploit.

"All you have to do to use this exploit is delete all custom stages on your Wii, then copy over the file. When you enter the Stage Builder menu, it will automatically run /boot.elf on SD"

Not much help, really.

Do you have a boot.elf on the root of your SD card? Otherwise, it won't run anything.

Edit: its not using the twilight hack, just so you know.

Yep, the boot.elf file from HackMii installer is in the root of my SD

Are you sure you set up the folder correctly? /private/wii/APP/RSBE/st/

Also, is the file that you dragged to the st folder a .bin file?

So, after some more digging, I found a beta file for the SSBB exploit on gamingexposed.com. The only problem is that you need to register to get to it, and I can't register for some reason. Its called the SmashStack exploit.

Trying to find the file as we speak.

Isn't that the same thing you already downloaded? Just look in the folder contents i told you to make until you find the file. It should be under st.

[pspplayground.condor.serverpro3.com]

I just found the file. Im going to see how it goes.

So, its almost what you told me to do, except that it has a .bin file in the st folder, not the boot.elf file from hackmii. That file goes into the root of the SD card.

LOL, I know. Thats what I said. The .bin file is the stage (the exploit), and the hackmii installer's .elf goes on the root, next to the private folder (which contains your .bin file).

Did you try loading it again through the stage builder?

Oh. I confused myself on your original directions. So, get this. IT DOESN'T WORK ON MY Wii!!!!!!!!1!!!1

I think I must be some kinda special to not be able to get this to work.

I seriously can not fathom what the crap is wrong with my Wii that it won't load up ANY of the stuff meant to make it crash/freeze/etc. I must have some sort of Super Wii.

Lol, you're not dumb. It just doesn't seem to be working for you.

Anyway, I'll go through everything again, just to make sure you got it right.

1.) If you already have a private folder on your SD card, move it off your SD card temporarily. That will mess with everything.
2.) Make a folder on the root called private, inside that, wii, then APP, then RSBE, then st, and then your .bin file.
3.) Put the hackmii installer's boot.elf on the root next to the private folder you made.
4.) Load it through the stage builder.

It still doesn't do anything?

So, here is what I did, EXACTLY

1. Reformatted SD card
2. Created folders in this order private>wii>APP>RSBE>st
3. Placed the .bin file from the SSBB exploit into the st folder
4. Placed the boot.elf file from hackmii into root of SD card
5. Safely removed the storage from my computer.
6. Started up Wii.
7. Inserted SD card into SD card slot on said Wii
8. Loaded up SSBB
9. Went to stage builder.
10. Nothing found on SD card by SSBB
11. Cried

Wow, I have no idea how to help you any more than I already have. Sorry.

It seems as if your wii just isn't compatible with anything...

Okay, I have one more idea.

Next to your st folder, make a new folder called al. Take the .bin file from the st folder and put it in the al folder. Now try launching SSBB again.

That is what I am beginning to think. Maybe it is some sort of hardware change between the first gens and later gens that allows for the installation of homebrew code. You would think being an earlier gen it would be easier to get away with things. Who knows. I have tried absolutely EVERYTHING that I have come across. The only thing I haven't tried is downgrading the firmware somehow and trying the bannerbomb or TP on an earlier FW version.

Thanks for the help Waxy, it was much appreciated. My Wii just won't work with us.

Don't give up hope yet!! Continue to check this topic that you've made, someone smarter than me will probably eventually come along ands solve your problem.

Also, did you try my above post?

I did try making the al folder and putting the stage in it. Didn't work. But listen to this.

I made a stage and saved it on my SD card. I was going to rename the .bin file from the SS hack, but I can't find any folder or save or anything on my SD card when I put it in my comp.

Do you think my computer is putting the files somewhere on the card that can't be read by the Wii?

I am tempted to buy another Wii, just to see if I can do this or not.
