I wanna fight Doc Louis!

So I got the Wii download ticket to get Punch Out Doc Louis, and to redeem the ticket I need to go to the Wii Shop Channel and enter the code. But when I go there, it says I need to update in order to continue. But I'm afraid that if I update, I'll lose the Homebrew Channel. But if I don't update I won't be able to use the Shop Channel or Nintendo Channel again. What do I do?

Also, if I do update, I'm deathly afraid that my Wii will get bricked. What are the chances of that happening?

You can use WiiSCU to update the Shop Channel. If you're on 4.0 or 4.1, just update Shop Channel. If you're <4.0, update IOS61 as well.

However, if you have the latest version of HBC, the update wont remove it. Its up to you.

Also, how do I update the Nintendo Channel without updating the menu?

Updating the Nintendo Channel can only be done through the Wii Shop Channel and does not require a menu update.

Once you have updated the Shop Channel, you can use the Shop Channel to update any other channel without updating.
