updated homebrew once

So i updated homebrew once and .elf quit working (not a big problem) but it did scare me so i took it offline. Now there are new features i want and games to play online, should i worry about updating homebrew and will it do updates in order or just give me the newest with all past updates.
- sorry if this is dumb but i love my wii and snes emu.

Updating your homebrew channel is perfectly safe and will not cause any compatibility issues.

thank you everyone talks about updating system menu i could not find the answer after 16 days of searching sites and faqs, glad i joined.
