Installed Homebrew Channel / Gecko OS - Update Issue
November 21, 2009 09:21PM
Hey Guys,

I hope someone can help me, I have just installed ‘Homebrew Channel’ and have added Gecko OS in order to play an NTSC game.

I have a PAL Wii my Wii version is 3.1E with D2PRO installed, I want to play a NTSC game – but I am unable to do so I get a ‘black screen’.
Therefore, I am trying to load the game using Gecko OS. Now when I go to launch game the following message comes up:

“This game requires IOS55. Install IOS55-64-v4633.wad”

Now as I have a PAL system and the game is NTSC, wouldn’t the above update ‘brick’ my system?

I really would appreciate any help.

Many thanks.

No - doing that won't brick you. IOSs are region free.

Thanks for your swift response :)

Would my Wii firmware remain as 3.1 even if I update the above IOS55?

I thought no updates were required as the game is being run through Gecko Os

Edit:

Ok, i have taken the plunge and have pressed install.

however the following message appears

Extracting files from wad...

and it seems to have frozen at that screen.

any suggestions?

Get dop-IOS MOD and run it. Select to run on IOS36. Then install IOS55. After this, run the game through Gecko OS and it should work. I believe the new copy protection found on NSMB prevents Gecko OS extracting the IOS WAD from the disc.

Hi, thanks for your response.

I have just installed and ran dop-IOS MOD - I ran the application on IOS36 and then attempted to install IOS55 - but the whole screen froze when I press 'A' to confirm. The white text became blurred and the application froze.

I have rebooted the console and it seems to be functioning normally - but the game still request for IOS55.

Any suggestions?

Edit; Just to add I had used Version 8

Try version6 instead. Some people report bugs with v8 which werent there in v6 (i think). Make sure you have no gc controllers/memory cards plugged in, and no usb drives either

i've tried with version 6 - but it says I have been unable to find IOS55 on the SD checking network...

But my Wii is not plugged up to the internet.

Oh, you didnt say that before...OK, get NUSD from wiibrew and use it to download the latest version of IOS55, and pack it to a WAD. Then download wadimport from wiibrew and use it to install the WAD of IOS55.

Thanks for your assistance.

i'm sorry for all the questions, I've used NUSD and now have the WAD file however I am unable to run wadimport from Homebrew Channel, I have placed it into the app folder and have created a 'wad' folder in the root of my SD card.

i have also tried updating it trhough dop-IOS MOD, but it still doesn;t locate the IOs file.

Sorry for all the questions.

Edit: Would it be Ok if i used Wad Manger to install it?

Yes wad manager will work, but be aware that app is not supported here on WiiBrew

Thanks - in that case other than Wadimport is there an other Wiibrew approved app that should install this?

your SD should be like this:
in root:
apps/wadimport/boot.dol
wad/IOS55.wad

my SD directory is like this;

I:\apps\wadImport_v0.2-cred\wadImport.dol.dol

I:\wad\IOS55-64-v5406.wad

should I delete the extra 'dol' that is at the end of the file - although when I extracted the file that is how it was named.

Update:

I have renamed the file to remove the extra 'dol' - and it still does not appear on Homebrew Channel.

Success!

I renamed the folder to 'wadimport' and the file to 'boot.dol' and ran the file as instructed.

I went to Gecko OS and the game runs perfectly.

i would like to thank you guys for this 'real time' support. Your help was greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
