Will I need an update?

I'm getting New Super Mario Bros Wii soon, and I'm wondering if it requires an update to play. If so, should I update when it tells me to. If it's gonna mess with my Homebrew, how do I get around this problem?

What System Menu are you on? If you are on 4.2 then you will not need to update. Any thing else, you will. If you have all of the newest homebrew (HBC, DVDx) then you are fine. It will delete bootmii boot2 unless you have boot2 v4 already.

I'm on system menu 4.0 How do I get the newest Homebrew? And will 4.2 get rid of Homebrew Channel all together?

Use the hackmii installer to install the newest HBC and DVDx. If you have the newest HBC, it will not get deleted by 4.2. The hackmii installer is here. Just run it through your current HBC.

Would updating through the HBC's update feature work as well?

If you have bootmii boot2 then that will but it is easily re-installed later. Your HBC and DVDx will not.

NSMBWii actually has 4.1, but it does include 4.2 IOSes and the boot2 update.
