There is no usable IOS for the channel
December 01, 2009 10:00PM
Hi,
I have a brand new wii with system menu ver 3.2U (that I bought few months ago when visiting Korea). I have no modpacks/failpacks or anything else installed on it. In other words, it is in factory status. I tried to use the HackMii v0.6 installer with the Bannerbomb exploit. Everything works fine during boot.elf loading (no freezing). However, I receive the message that HBC and DVDX can not be installed. Here is my installer.log:

That's wierd... You wouldn't be able to install Bootmii anyway, but if you are on 3.2, you should be able to install both the Homebrew Channel and DVDx.

You have cIOScorp

Use Dop-IOS MOD to install an unmodified IOS61.

Actually, an unmodified IOS 30 v1040 never fails. I would assume an unmodified IOS 61 will also work though.

Dear bg4545,
I guess I do not have cIOScorp as the wii is in its factory status. Unless Nintendo has done it to hinder HBC installation :)

Dear WikFSX and Arikado, can you please elaborate more on how to use Dop-IOS MOD? I know that to run it I have to put its 'boot.dol' on the SD card root instead of the HackMii boot.elf and run it through the bannerbomb exploit. But what should I do after that? I have read that you should install an IOS to install your target IOS. This is a bit confusing for me.
Also, do I need internet connection during installation?

Thanks,

You DO have cIOScorp. Someone must have installed it on the Wii. If it is second hand, it was the previous owner. If not, it was someone else who had access to the Wii. There is no other way to have that set of IOS. The IOS all have version maxed out and are fakesigned i.e. they are not from Nintendo.

I'm not sure if this is what happened but formatting the system doesn't return it to "factory status", it just deletes channels and saves. You do have cIOScorp.

This is funny as I just opened it form the box. Can it be that the retailer has messed out with it? It is in korea anyway so I cannot go back and complain.
Anyway, if this cIOScorp is a bad thing, how can I get rid of it? also, do I need to install other IOS beside 61 as suggested by WikFSX and Arikado?

Thanks,

Im suggesting a clean IOS 30 v1040, not 61.

Please excuse my ignorance, but isn't IOS 30 used already as it appears in the log "Found IOS 30: revision: 0xffff*". In that sense, shouldn't 61 a safer choice.

That doesn't matter. Install a IOS 30 v1040, like Arikado already said.

It's called overwriting. My app Dop-IOS MOD will delete the existing IOS 30 and replace it wit the unpatched IOS 30 v1040 you tell it to install. Afterwards, the hackmii installer will work just fine.

I just noticed, you have a Korean Wii running 3.2U.

It was modified, a Korean Wii should only be running *.*K.

EDIT: DO NOT UPDATE YOUR Wii TO VERSION 4.2U, IT WILL BRICK.

You might still be able to switch to 3.2K and update to 4.2K, while the Wii Menu will be in Korean, and you will get Korean updates, you still should be able to play US games with Gecko.

Will IOS 30 v1040 enable both Homebrew channel and DVDX installation or only HBC?

It will enable DVDx and HBC.

one last question before installing IOS 30 v 1040: I noticed that IOS 30 is used by the system menu. Is it still safe to overwrite it? (please note that I have a Korean wii that has been soft-moded by the retailer (most probably) to 3.2U)

Yes, it is.

Since I am still setting up my wireless network, I was not able to use 'dop-IOS MOD' as it requires Internet connection. So, I used 'dop-IOS' to install IOS 61 and 30 v1040 after downloading them through NUS and put them on the SD card. Then went back to HackMii installer and everything is working fine. I have been able to install both HBC (on 61) and DVDX (on 30).

Thanks a lot for everyone's help.

After setting up my wireless network, I will start by installing the homebrew channel browser and select some useful apps, most probably MPlayer CE, etc...

I will also make another post on this forum asking for help to change my weather channel from Korean to English.

Thanks again.
