what happens if i run new super mario bros wii with the HBC?

I havent bought it yet but they told me that if I ran that game with the hbc the wii would brick or something like that and they said that you had to format the wii before playing such games, but that means further games will have that too, so if I remove the HBC (if you can) it should not brick or block if I play one of those games?

If you have the latest system menu NSMBW will not do anything, also if you have the latest HBC then NSMBW can't do anything to it.

Nintendo may well have told them, as they are in a position of trying to prevent people from using the HBC.

i doubt nintendo told them. if ninty were telling shops to tell people that, it would only raise awareness of hbc, which they dont want.

Ok, so, yeah, I just got this game as a gift. It's safe to use if I have HBC and cIOS (Trucha preferred) installed, but I do not have the latest system software?

Boot it with Gecko. If you actually need to do any IOS updates, Gecko will tell you. If you don't, it won't.

I have an older Japanese Wii and have not updated my firmware at all (v.3.2). I have Homebrew Channel and Gecko OS 1.8, I believe. I just bought a legit Japanese NSMBW and Gecko tells me to update to IOS53.64.v5149.wad (I think I wrote that right). If I update through Gecko OS, will I lose my Homebrew Channel and other WiiBrew already installed on my Wii? I'd rather not have to go through the whole update if I can update safely and without losing any of my homebrew. Right now, I dare not update because I don't want to lose my functionality, so I can't play my legit game.

If you update through Gecko then you will not notice any change in your Wii.
