New SMB insists on system update, but I'm using 4.2
March 07, 2010 06:42PM
I just bought a retail copy of New Super Mario Brothers and the disc channel insists that I update my system. To the best of my knowledge I've upgraded all of my IOSs and System Menu to 4.2 (using Dop Mii v12). I noticed that I have a new pressing of the disc RVL-SMNE-0A-2 USA. (I can't find any info on this version, only version 1).I'm using BootMii v.6 installed to Boot 2. Here are my IOS versions from DOP-Mii (only 36 is patched).

Is there something I'm missing? Is it safe to take the system upgrade?

The update is perfectly safe. It just wants to update your boot2. You will have to reinstall bootmii boot2 afterward.

Either use DOP-Mii to update boot2 or do the NSMB update. The update is just fine.

I thought bootmii replaces the boot2... What is bootmii actually doing?

Yes it is a boot2 replacement. And the boot2 update replaces the bootmii replacement. So you then have to replace boot2 again with bootmii.

BootMii doesn't replace all of boot2, it only replaces part of it, but that's mostly a technical distinction.

funny thing is, since I already had boot2v4 thanks to Ninty when my Wii's SD card slot died, when I updated to 4.2 I got to keep bootmii =p
