Can I update my Wii without doing it through nintendo for 4.2U?

My uncle got me Monster Hunter Tri for my birthday yesterday, and I need to update my wii in order to play the game. I'm afraid that if I update my wii though, I won't be able to get homebrew back.

aight, last question and I greatly appreciate the help, I had the Homebrew channel on and I deleted it, is that all I needed to do so nintendo doesn't brick it?

Just navigate to the wii settings and update your wii via WiFi. You didn't need to delete the HBC first, you could have just left it there. However, since you already deleted it, once you finish updating the wii, re-install the HBC.
